Soaring Vines: Barkan, Israel's Fastest Growing WInery

Founded in 1990 by Yair Lerner and Shmuel Boxer, Barkan Winery aimed to modernize Israeli wine production. Today, Barkan has grown into a magnificent winery that truly captures the terroir of Israel. Receiving grapes from vineyards all over Israel, the winery is set in Kibbutz Hulda. Located on a 50,000 square meter area, Barkan takes in over 8000 tons of grapes during the harvest.

Today, we bring you suggestions both new and classic.

Barkan Chardonnay Reserve 2013

This Chardonnay is made by merging juice aged in both barrels and steel. The wine is full of bright fruit on the palate, remaining fresh and crisply sour while elegantly framed from the oak aging. Unlike many Chardonnays, Barkan's 2012 stays away from a heavy, buttery quality. Expect fruit, not caramel.

Barkan Classic Merlot 2013

This Merlot is comprised of grapes picked in the Galilee and Judean plains. Rich with fruit and textured with a velvet quality, the finish is long, smooth, and filling.

Barkan Reserve Shiraz 2013

Produced from the Syrah Vineayrds near Alama and the Ben Zimra Vineyard in the Upper Galilee, these fully matured grapes are aged in oak casks for fourteen months. The concentrated wine becomes even more smooth and complex when aged in the bottle. The deeply shaded wine has a medium-full body add incredible fruit flavors.
