Holiday Wine, Try This Wine

Passover Countdown: 23 Days to Go!

This is part of a new series where we'll be counting down wine every day until Passover. It's only 23 days away, and we need a distraction from all that cleaning! Every wine listed is Kosher for Passover.

Due to a technical hiccup, we missed a countdown day yesterday. We assure you-this won't happen again! 23 days until Passover remain, and today we're thinking about Black Tulip from Tulip Winery in Israel.

Tulip is located on a small village known as Kfar Tikva, or the Village of Hope. It's a community settlement for people with special needs, which strives to allow the developmentally challenged community to develop and realize their potential.

Together with the Kfar Tikva Association, Akim, ILAN and Beit Hashanti, an art competition called “Don’t Label Me!” was launched. In order to find a label for their flagship wine, the Black Tulip, Tulip announced an art contest for students from all four participating NGOs. The winner’s painting would earn a place of honor on the wine label. After much deliberation and serious debate, Tulip Winery chose a winner from the 14 finalists, David Ashkenazi. David, who has Down’s syndrome, produced a "colorful and abstract work [that] stole the heart of every single one of us."

And how does the wine taste? Like black currants, cherries, blackberry, vanilla, and spices. Great with steak, this wine has a silky mouth feel and lovely tannins. But don't take our word for it: try it for yourself.
